Find and view Minecraft client logs

What are client logs and what do I need them for?

Client logs contain the complete chat activity on your server. You may want to view an old log yourself or our GPORTAL Support colleagues may ask for a log to help you solve a problem. We will explain where you can find these logs and how you can view them.

Where can I find the client logs?

You can easily find your logs as follows:

  • First open your .minecraft folder
-> The default path for this is usually as follows:
    LocalHarddrive/Users/YourUserName(Windowsaccount)/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft

Hint Alternatively, press Win + R on your keyboard and type %appdata% in the field that appears. Then confirm with ENTER and you should be able to see the .minecraft folder.

  • Now open the .minecraft folder
  • You will find a folder called logs

In this folder you will now probably see a whole lot of compressed folders containing the logs in question.

How can I view the logs?

Once you have found the logs, you need to unpack them using a tool such as WinRAR and can then view them using the Editor on your PC, for example. The compressed log folders are sorted by date so that you can estimate which gaming session they are from based on the folder date.
