How can I install add-ons on an existing Minecraft Bedrock world?

You don’t want to lose your current world, but still want to install new addons on your Minecraft Bedrock server? Then you can follow the steps below.

Hint Although this method may seem confusing in parts, it is the only way to install a “Behavior Pack”, “Resource Pack” (or both) on your Minecraft Bedrock server with an existing world.

Proceed as follows:

  1. First stop your server
  2. Download the Behviour Pack of your choice (this should be in a .mcpack or .mcaddon format)
  3. Unpack the package after downloading (use e.g. WinRar or 7Zip)
  4. Then open the unpacked files
-> You will now find a Behavior Pack folder AND/OR a Resource Pack folder
  5. Now use a FTP tool like FileZilla and upload the Behavior Pack folder to /behavior_packs and the Resource Pack folder to /resources_packs on your server (right side)
  6. After the upload is finished, restart your server once
  7. Now create two new files with the following name
    world_resource_packs.json
    world_behavior_packs.json
  8. Now go to the Resource Pack folder and edit the file manifest.json
  9. Copy the UUID and version number from manifest.json and paste it into the world_resource_packs.json file (be sure to keep the formatting)
  10. Now do the same for the world_behaviour_packs.json file and the corresponding Behavior Pack folder
  11. Now upload both .json files to the world subfolder on your server (this is the same folder where you find the level.dat file)
  12. Now restart your server again

Have fun playing!
