Minecraft Golden Apple

Minecraft is a game of adventure, survival, and creativity, where players must navigate a world filled with both wonders and dangers. While you journey through this world, you will learn how to use a multitude of different tools for your survival and among these items, Minecraft golden apples and enchanted golden apples stand out as some of the most powerful and sought-after consumables. In Minecraft, golden apples are craftable consumables that grant you additional health for a limited time and regenerate your health at the same time. Meanwhile, enchanted golden apples must be looted but offer these effects in a far more powerful version. These items not only provide significant advantages in combat but also play a crucial role in various game mechanics. In this article, we’ll explore everything you need to know about these golden fruits, from ways to find them to crafting them and how to use them during your playtime.

H2 How to Make a Golden Apple in Minecraft

We will begin with the regular golden apple. MC veterans probably already know how to get it, but having everyone be on the same page is still important. As the name suggests, the Minecraft golden apple is made of two ingredients: gold ingots and regular apples. Thus, the Minecraft golden apple recipe is:

8x gold ingot + 1x apple = 1x golden apple

The result is a shiny, golden fruit that’s more than just a snack. As for getting your hands on the ingredients, we can give you some tips. Apples are relatively easy to find, being sometimes dropped by oaks and dark oaks as well as being hidden in loot chests in the following locations:

  • igloo
  • stronghold
  • village (savannah village and weaponsmith’s chests only)

Additionally, villagers that work as farmers can sell you apples in exchange for emeralds. As for the gold ingots, we recommend our article on Minecraft ore, which shows you where you can find gold most easily.

Minecraft Golden Apple Effects

Just as any other type of food, golden apples provide you with saturation as well as restoring hunger. When consumed, a golden apple provides the player with two beneficial effects:

  • Regeneration II: This effect lasts for 5 seconds, gradually restoring a total of 4 health points (or 2 hearts). This can be crucial in tight combat situations where quick healing is necessary.
  • Absorption I: For the next 2 minutes, the player receives 2 extra absorption hearts. These hearts are temporary and appear as yellow in the health bar, absorbing damage before your regular hearts do.

As you can see, these two effects work hand in hand, shielding you from damage while you regenerate your actual health. As such, a Minecraft golden apple can be invaluable in battle and can be the last resort whenever you are in danger of dying.

Other Uses of Golden Apples

Aside from the effects mentioned above, golden apples can be used in another way: villager curing. If you return to your home base village only to find out that one of your favorite traders has been bitten by a zombie, a golden apple can act as a cure.

  1. Douse the zombified villager in a potion of weakness.
  2. Use your Minecraft golden apple on the zombie.
  3. Keep your distance from the curing villager, as it remains a zombie but gains the strength effect, making its attacks more potent.
  4. After 3-5 minutes (or 3,600-6,000 ticks), the villager is cured. You can speed up this process by placing beds or iron bars around them.
  5. Reap your benefits: Aside from getting your merchant back, the game lowers the prices you have to pay when buying items from that villager permanently and grants you positive gossip within the village, as other villagers nearby will also grant you, albeit smaller, discounts.

If you want to gain all of the achievements within the game, curing a zombie villager of their illness is a necessary step, as it awards you with the ‘zombie doctor’ achievement.

Finally, you can use golden apples in Minecraft for two other purposes, those being interacting with piglins as well as feeding them to horses. As you may know, piglins are obsessed with gold and will even cease fighting you to pick up golden apples if you drop them, if only temporarily.

As for your horses, Minecraft golden apples can assist you both in taming and breeding horses. If you try taming a horse by sitting on it, feeding it a golden apple beforehand increases your chance of success by 10%. As for breeding, the golden apple can be used on two horses or donkeys (or one of each), causing them to produce a baby. If you then feed a golden apple to a baby horse, the fruit accelerates its growth by 4 minutes.

Enchanted Golden Apples: The Ultimate Power-Up

While the enchanted golden apple and the regular golden apple seem very much the same on the surface, they have a few key differences. Generally, the enchanted golden apple has fewer use cases than the regular version but is more efficient in these cases.

Obtaining an Enchanted Golden Apple

Unlike the regular golden apple, enchanted golden apples cannot be crafted as of version 1.9. Thus, the ‘enchanted’ part of its name may lead to some confusion, as it does not need to be enchanted at all. Instead, players must find it in naturally generated chests within structures like:

Among these locations, the trial chambers offer the highest chance of finding an enchanted golden apple. While both the normal vault and the ominous vault have an 8.3% chance to contain a golden apple, the latter actually has a 22.5% chance to hold an enchanted golden apple – by far the highest chance to find one when compared to other chests that may have an enchanted golden apple inside them. Due to its uncraftable nature, the enchanted golden apple is rare, making it a highly prized item for players due to its powerful effects.

Effects of an Enchanted Golden Apple

Similar to its basic counterpart, the enchanted golden apple offers a suite of powerful effects, making it invaluable in the most challenging situations:

  • Regeneration V: This effect lasts for 30 seconds, restoring a total of 15 health points (or 7.5 hearts). The high regeneration rate can be the difference between life and death in a battle.
  • Absorption IV: For 2 minutes, the player gains 8 extra absorption hearts. These temporary hearts provide a significant buffer against incoming damage.
  • Resistance: This effect lasts for 5 minutes and reduces all incoming damage (the void and hunger being the only exceptions) by 20%, giving the player a substantial defensive advantage.
  • Fire Resistance: Also lasting for 5 minutes, this effect makes the player immune to fire and lava damage. This is particularly useful in the Nether or during encounters with fire-based mobs.

Uses of Enchanted Golden Apples

Due to their rarity and powerful effects, enchanted golden apples are typically saved for the most critical moments in the game, such as:

  • Boss Battles: The enchanted golden apple’s effects are ideal for battles against formidable foes like the Ender Dragon, the Warden or the Wither, where every advantage counts.
  • HighStakes PvP: In competitive Minecraft gameplay, such as in UHC (Ultra Hardcore) or other PvP scenarios (e.g. on SMP servers), having an enchanted golden apple can give you the edge needed to survive and outlast opponents.
  • Taming and Breeding: Like normal Minecraft golden apples, enchanted golden apples can be used to tame and breed horses, donkeys, and mules. Using them accelerates the growth of baby horses (foals) and makes the animals more receptive to breeding.
  • Banner pattern crafting: By combining an enchanted golden apple with a sheet of paper, you can craft a ‘Thing Banner Pattern,’ which shows the former logo of the Mojang company.

Note that, unlike regular golden apples, enchanted golden apples cannot cure zombified villagers, although piglins go after them the same as they do with regular golden apples.

Trivia: The Legacy of the Notch Apple

The enchanted golden apple is sometimes referred to as the “Notch Apple,” named after Markus “Notch” Persson, the original creator of Minecraft.

Despite its rarity, the enchanted golden apple remains a symbol of ultimate power and preparedness in Minecraft. Eating one even unlocks the ‘Overpowered’ achievement, highlighting its significance within the game.

Conclusion

Golden apples and enchanted golden apples are much more than just food items in Minecraft; they are strategic tools that can turn the tide of battle, save lives, and help in crucial game mechanics. Whether you’re preparing for a tough fight, trying to cure a zombie villager, or just looking to keep an emergency powerup in your inventory, these golden fruits are indispensable. Their rarity and powerful effects make them a prized possession for any Minecraft player, and understanding how to use them effectively is key to mastering the game.
