Vanilla Minecraft

Vanilla Minecraft refers to official, unmodified versions of the game. Despite the great popularity and variety of Minecraft mods, the base game still enjoys great popularity. This is not least due to the numerous updates that have kept the game alive and expanded it for over ten years now.

mining and crafting as intended

The first versions of Minecraft were released in 2009 and developed by programmer Markus “Notch” Persson himself. Since then, the “Cave Game” (title of the first version) has become one of the most successful and long-lived games in history.

The evolution of Minecraft

Minecraft was already publicly available in its first version on May 13, 2009, but was very limited in its functionality. By the time version 1.0.0 was officially released on November 18, 2011, most of the basic elements that make up Minecraft to this day had been added: endless maps that can be explored in all directions, crafting, resource mining, peaceful and hostile mobs, and, with the first final release, the End, complete with the Ender Dragon.

Since then, Vanilla Minecraft has grown considerably: Updates 1.1 – 1.12 initially added several biomes, mobs, as well as numerous new items, mechanics and commands in the following years. With version 1.9, the combat system was also fundamentally revised, and the second hand of your character became usable. Minecraft became more elaborate, more rounded, and also more successful over this period.

Since 2018, Mojang has focused on comprehensive revisions of individual aspects of the game. They started with the ocean in version 1.13, adding elements like coral, icebergs, and sea creatures like dolphins and turtles. Since then, several game elements have received a similar overhaul, such as the villages, the Nether and – since this year – the mountains and caves in Minecraft. With version 1.18, the second part of the Caves and Cliffs update will be released towards the end of 2021. It remains to be seen what Mojang plans for the next updates.

Minecraft game modes

Vanilla Minecraft features several game modes:

Survival mode

Probably the most famous Minecraft mode. Mine, craft, defend yourself and survive. Minecraft vanilla survival servers are still a very popular type of SMP (survival multiplayer).

Creative Mode

Here you can go wild and build anything that can theoretically be built in survival mode without having to gather resources. This mode is suitable for artistic projects in Minecraft or creating adventures.

Adventure Mode

In Adventure Mode, you can visit foreign creative worlds to play prepared scenarios and adventures that other players have created. For players who are looking for variety and exchange.

Hardcore mode

Just like survival mode, only more merciless. The difficulty level remains at “hard“, and the death of your character is permanent. For experienced players looking for a challenge.

Spectator Mode

Watch other players without interfering. You can enter the spectator mode by using the command “/gamemode spectator”.
