Guide: Farming Simulator 25 rice farming
The latest part of the popular simulator series brings a number of new features to the game, including a new map inspired by the culture of East Asia. You can now grow rice to match. You can find out which rice varieties are available, how you can cultivate them and what else you need to look out for in the GPORTAL blog.
Which rice varieties you can choose from
Farming Simulator 25 not only gives you the opportunity to grow rice, you can also choose from two different varieties: Long grain rice and normal rice. And even though rice always looks pretty similar to the average person, normal rice is grown differently to long-grain rice. The different approaches provide you with unprecedented opportunities to get to know the popular simulator from a completely different angle. Both varieties offer you individual mechanisms that ensure that rice cultivation is not as uninteresting as it might seem, as they are, after all, a very good source of income.
The foundation for rice cultivation
In order for you to be successful with your rice harvest, the preparation of the fields is the most important foundation and is essential for the growth of your rice plants. To grow rice, you need to create special rectangular rice fields that can absorb and store water, as this is very important for normal rice. You need a large and flat area, which you can easily shape yourself with Farming Simulator 25. Now you need to plant the fields, prepare the soil appropriately and possibly also adjust the pH value. Of course, you will also need to install water pumps and irrigation systems for special rice cultivation so that you can flood and drain all the fields as required.
Growing normal rice
Once you are through with the preparations and are sure that everything fits, you can start growing your normal rice plants. The already planted fields must be flooded with water and then one of the new Farming Simulator 25 machines can be used. With the practical seeder from Iseki, you can easily and efficiently place the rice plants in the field and even fertilize them at the same time. The period in which you can plant rice is in spring, the duration of growth is about 4 months and the yield is higher than with long-grain rice, but also requires more special machines, which of course cost a lot of money.
Cultivation of long grain rice
Long grain rice is grown differently to normal rice, as it is planted in a dry field and only flooded with water later. You don't need a special machine to sow it like you do with normal rice, which of course makes long-grain rice much more affordable, but you will get a higher yield with normal rice, so the decision is up to you. Once you have sown your rice, tilled the fields properly and the first strong shoots are appearing, it is time to activate the water pump. Depending on the growth phase, long-grain rice requires a different amount of water and, just like normal rice, must never be allowed to dry out or be flooded. So keep an eye on your rice plants, especially the weather, and check the water pump. While you have some flexibility with the water level of long-grain rice, the water level of normal rice must always remain constant, which in turn means lost rice plants as soon as the level is no longer correct.
Note: As well as monitoring the water level, you should also keep an eye on any potential weeds. If it gets too out of hand, you can use various pesticides to get the situation back under control.
The rice is ripe, time to start harvesting
As soon as the plants are ripe, it's time to harvest the rice. There should be no more water in the fields, as the plants absorb the water completely throughout their growth. An Iseki machine is used for the normal rice, while the long-grain rice can be harvested with a simple combine harvester. Once you have finished harvesting, you can decide what to do with the rice. Selling, storing or further processing - there are many options. The market value of your rice depends on its quality, so make sure that the fields are in good condition and that your plants are constantly monitored.
Once you have harvested all the fields, it is of course time to prepare the fields for another season. Take a look at the information on the fields and proceed accordingly. You may not have to do that much, but you may also have to take care of the pH value in addition to the new cultivation.
Hint: If your main focus is on the production of rice, you even have the option of growing rice seedlings yourself, for which you will need a greenhouse.
