A successful business thanks to FS25 Forestry
With the new Farming Simulator 25, you have numerous opportunities to make your farm even more successful. With forestry, you can devote your time to the forests in FS25 and also create a nice source of income. With the use of special machines and wood processing, you have to keep an overview. You can find all information about FS25 forestry in the GPORTAL blog.
What tree species are there in FS25?
Before we delve into the topic of forestry, it is of course also important to know which tree species are actually available in Farming Simulator, and there are quite a few. Depending on what you want to do with the harvested trees, you have to choose different tree species - not all trees are suitable for furniture production, for example, because straight trunks are more important for this. The trees are divided into deciduous trees and conifers, some of which have very interesting names:
Deciduous trees
- Maple (ash maple)
- American elm
- Birch (Erman's birch)
- Oak
- Downy serviceberry
- Shagbark hickory
- Pagoda dogwood
- Willow
Conifers
- Spruce
- Stone Pine
- Pine
- Cypress
What tools to use to fell trees
So let's take a look at the first FS25 forestry machines, because you can benefit from not just one, but three machines for felling trees:
- John Deere 843L-II - this machine can transport up to two smaller trees at the same time and is therefore well suited for harvesting deciduous trees, for example
- Komatsu 951 - with this machine you can fell larger trees and cut them directly to a length that you can determine. The annoying branches are also removed at the same time
- Impex Hannibal T50 - similar to the Komatsu machine, but with the ability to capture and process larger trees
However, you can also use an excavator and either make use of the grapple or you can buy a cutting head such as the Woodcracker C550 and use it to fell trees. Depending on which trees you have planted or want to fell, you need to choose the right harvesting machine, because not all of them can handle the huge pine trees, for example, and harvest this huge type of tree efficiently.
A completely different, but also much more exhausting way of felling trees is with chainsaws. However, these also cost significantly less than the large machines for Farming Simulator 25 Forestry and are available from the brands Husqvarna, Stihl, Jonsered and McCulloch. With a chainsaw, you can cut down trees as you wish, remove the individual branches by hand and you have to pay attention to the direction in which the tree should fall, so hold the chainsaw accordingly.
Plant trees correctly
To ensure that your success with forestry is not short-lived, you must of course also take care of reforestation, especially after you have just felled numerous trees. This brings us to the next machines that you can get to know through forestry in Farming Simulator 25: The PL-75 tree-planting machine from Damcon and the Risutec SKB-240. To use the Damcon machine, you have to install the trailer on a tractor and can then plant the seedlings with a working width of 1 meter - for the SKB-240 from Risutec, either the Volvo EC250DL or the Volvo EC380DL excavator is required. The Damcon machine costs less than half as much as the Risutec SKB-240. To ensure that the area is used efficiently and as many trees as possible grow, you should make sure that you work in straight lines - the Damcon machine then works automatically and sets the appropriate spacing. Fortunately, you don't have to make any major preparations for planting trees, as you do for growing numerous crops, and can simply get started.
Hint: if you don't want to plant all the seedlings of one tree species at once, you can simply change the type by dropping your current pallet to make room for a new one.
The best way to transport the wood
After you have planted trees, watched them grow and also felled them, the logs must of course be transported from the ground, because simply lying around will not help your profit. To do this, you have a number of machines at your disposal that can, for example, grab the tree trunks and move them to a more accessible location or load them onto a transporter. Once again, you have the option of using any tractors or wheel loaders you already have with suitable attachments.
If you find yourself with your tree trunks on uneven or hilly terrain, such as in the agricultural setting of Hutan Pantai, then cable winches or yarders are a great help for you. You can find out what else the new FS25 Map Hutan Pantai has to offer in addition to mountainous views in our blog. Yarders are a real help on particularly high or low terrain, as they allow you to transport logs to your specified position using ropes. Load your timber onto a suitable truck, otherwise it can become uncomfortable, secure it well and you're ready to go.
Wood processing and sales
Once you've done the hard work and are ready to turn your wood into money, you have two options:
- Chop wood: if you want to chop your wood or have unusable leftovers from your wood harvest, you can buy a wood chipper. You can either buy a trailer for a tractor or choose the Jenz HEM 922 DQ Cobra Hybrid. With the trailer, you can use your existing tractor and load small logs by hand, while the Jenz machine is larger and has a crane, meaning it can process much larger logs. You will also need a trailer to load the shredded wood into
- Sell logs: you can make quite a lot of profit by selling your tree trunks, but they need to be well delimbed and ideally large and straight trees such as stone pines or pines, as deciduous trees tend to grow small and have a lot of branches. The tree trunks are then sent to the sawmill or a carpenter, for example, who uses them to make furniture
Removing the troublesome tree trunks
As soon as you have loaded, chopped or sold all the felled trees, it is time to remove the annoying and leftover tree trunks, because unfortunately they do not miraculously disappear by themselves and they take up space for new trees. You have two types of machine at your disposal for this task: forestry mulchers or stump cutters. With both types, you can drive up to the tree stump, lower the machine and get started. If the tree stump is a little too high for your machine, you can simply raise it a little and it should work - et voilà, smooth and beautiful ground for new tree seedlings.
Maximum profit with this type of tree
We would like to give you a very important reminder now, because there is exactly one type of tree that promises the highest profit and that is the Lodgepole pine, more precisely the Scotch pine. Although it has a fairly long growth period, the size of the tree is decisive for the yield and you can't go wrong with a pine tree, because you can earn up to several thousand euros with just one trunk.
