Sons of the Forest - A cozy horror trip

Build a shack, provide food and... survive

As in the first part of the successful horror-survival series, in Sons of the Forest you have to build a protective shelter, provide yourself with enough food and clean water, and most importantly: survive! You land on an initially deserted island in search of a billionaire, but what sounds like an exciting adventure quickly turns into a horror trip.

So here you are, stranded on the island, with a mission to track down the man with a lot of money - now what? First, go in search of useful resources and collect everything you can find, because building a base and everything else you will need in the game will eat up some resources.

Your first night - what was that?

You are tired from the first day, collecting all the resources and first impressions? Then, of course, you deserve to take a break and close your eyes for a bit before the next few days... oh, what was that? Well, you are not alone on the island - your companion named Kelvin and many scary and especially mutated creatures are with you on the island and some of these vile and disgusting creatures are strong, very strong.

Friend or Foe?

After it becomes clear relatively quickly that your companion Kelvin is there to help you and support you in everything that comes your way in Sons of the Forest, this is of course the complete opposite with the creatures living on the island. Equip yourself well from the start, so as not to be helpless against the hostile creatures. You may even encounter support from an elf-like person in the forest, who turns out to be a real fighting machine.

You will surely notice that a small shack with only a fence for protection and a few sticks as a defense system are no longer what will protect you from any enemies in horror survival. Also, the building system in Sons of the Forest is much more in-depth and complex, you can build yourself entire bases and fortresses with defense systems - which might not sound so bad after you realize what and who is living on the island.

The four seasons and weapons

Also new in Sons of the Forest are the changing seasons, which present an additional challenge in the game. For example, you have to arm yourself against the cold and adapt your equipment, or make sure to protect yourself from the heat and always consume enough water. As weapons in the fight against mutants or soldiers, you will have various pistols, axes or even electric clubs at your disposal - doesn't that sound like fun?

Are there any vehicles?

There are no real vehicles, such as a car or bicycle, on the island in Sons of the Forest. However, there is a hang glider that you can find in various locations and you can also find a one-wheeled "motorcycle". Once you have found the hang glider, it works just like in real life, jumping down from an elevation with it and gliding across the map with your forward and backward keys. Note that you will get stuck in the bushes with the hang glider more often when you carry it in your hand and run through thick areas in Sons of the Forest.

The Knight V Motorcycle

The motorcycle or "Knight V" is powered by batteries. As with the hang glider for the most part, you are protected from crash damage on the Knight V. So if you already have practice in steering the bike, you can use it to quickly cover hilly terrain and explore the big map.

Brand new: the golf cart

The golf cart, by the way, is a brand-new feature of the game, which was included in patch 07. The special feature of this vehicle is that it is solar-powered, which of course means that you will not need gasoline to drive it. However, it is important to know that after 6 pm, the golf cart uses one unit of its energy reserves every 30 seconds, as the sun can then no longer charge the solar panel on its roof, this only happens again the next morning from 6 am.

Another plus point of the golf cart is the passenger seat, which opens up the possibility of transporting another player - however, the golf cart cannot store items and objects. Due to its size, it is advisable to drive the cart on more open terrain than the forest, otherwise it will quickly get stuck in the thicket. Neither the golf cart nor its occupants receive any damage, but it can be tipped over by strong opponents and then even players fall out of the cart.
