Valheim Armor: Types and Guide

Besides food for various buffs, vicious enemies and strong weapons, armor is obviously a really important thing in Valheim. You can wear different armors to reduce fire or frost damage, for example. You can find an overview of the armors here.

Valheim Wolf Armor

The wolf armor is still very popular in Valheim and this is no surprise, because the wolf cloak alone offers you good protection against the icy cold, for example in the Mountains. Since you need Silver for the wolf armor, you must first defeat the boss Bonemass to get the Wishbone from him, which you can then use to search for Silver ore in the ground.

However, another method is to use a two-handed hammer, such as the Iron Hammer: hit the ground with the hammer and, with a little luck, you might find a vein of silver. To completely craft the wolf armor, you will need the following resources:

  • Breastplate: 20x Silver, 5x Wolf Pelt and 1x Chain. To get wolf pelt, you need to go wolf hunting - preferably with a good bow, otherwise it can be a very dangerous affair
  • Wolf pants: 20x Silver, 5x Wolf Pelt and 4x Wolf Teeth
  • Cape: 6x Wolf Pelt, 4x Silver and 1x Wolf Trophy

Hint: note that the full armor will subtract just under 10% of your movement speed, and since you will likely enter the Mountains biome with little or no frost resistance, be sure not to freeze to death. To do this, use the best possible clothing and frost resistance mead.

Valheim Troll Armor

Are you more of the sneaky type or do you want to go hunting in peace and sneak up on your prey without much effort? Then the Troll Armor is exactly what you need. In order to get the troll leather for the armor, you have to kill trolls first, of course - go out and equip yourself with a bow and enough arrows to avoid getting too close to the trolls, because they have a lot of power and a very high health meter. In order to create the Troll Armor, you will need the following resources:

  • Troll Helmet: 5x Troll Hide and 3x Bone Fragments
  • Troll Tunic: 5x Troll Hide
  • Troll Pants: 5x Troll Hide
  • Troll cape: 10x Troll Hide and 10x Bone Fragments

Valheim Padded Armor

The padded armor in Valheim is the second best next to the Carapace armor in terms of armor value. Since you will need a lot of Linen Thread to craft the complete armor set, you must first defeat the boss Moder (Dragon Mother) and craft a Crafting Table from the Dragon Tears you receive. Now craft a spinning wheel and use it to turn Flax into Linen Thread - Flax can be found and grows only in the Plains biome in Fuling villages. The exact list of resources needed for the padded armor can be found here:

  • Padded Helmet: 15x Linen Thread and 10x Iron
  • Padded Breastplate: 20x Linen Thread and 10x Iron
  • Padded Greaves: 20x Linen Thread and 10x Iron
  • Linen Cape: 20x Linen Thread and 1x Silver

Valheim Carapace Armor

The Valheim Carapace Armor is currently the strongest armor you can craft and wear. However, you need some and also new resources to create this armor, first of all Carapace and Mandible. You get Carapace from Seekers and also Seeker Soldiers, whereas you get Mandible exclusively from Seeker Soldiers - find and fight them in the Mistlands and collect some of both items, because you really need a lot of Carapace. A more detailed list of the required resources follows here:

  • Carapace Helmet: 16x Carapace, 4x Refined Eitr, 3x Scale Hide, and 2x Mandible
  • Carapace Breastplate: 20x Carapace, 5x Iron, 4x Refined Eitr and 3x Scale Hide
  • Carapace Greaves: 20x Carapace, 5x Iron, 4x Refined Eitr and 3x Scale Hide

Hint: note that the full armor subtracts about 10% of your movement speed, though unlike the armor value, this is completely acceptable.

Other armor types in Valheim

Besides the armors listed above, there are of course other armor types in Valheim and we would like to briefly introduce them here:

Eitr Weave Armor

This armor is especially important for friends of magic in Valheim, because it offers 100% Eitr regeneration as a complete set. The disadvantages of the armor are the low armor value and the many resources you need to craft it, in addition to the Galdr table. For the complete set you need 55x Linen Thread, 55x Refined Eitr, 15x Scale Hide, 10x Feather and 2x Iron.

Rag Armor

The first "armor" you will wear in Valheim is the rag armor. From the beginning, you will already be wearing the rag shirt, and you can still craft the matching pants if needed, but this set gives you no bonuses and only 2 points in the armor rating. To make the ragged shirt and the ragged pants you need a total of 10x Leather Scraps.

Leather Armor

After the rag armor, the leather armor is the first real full armor in Valheim and consists of four pieces. It protects you a bit better than the rag armor and only requires a total of 22x Deer Hide and for the cloak an additional 5x Bone Fragments.

Bronze Armor

As the first metallic armor in Valheim, the bronze armor is heavier and therefore subtracts 10% of your movement speed, but it also offers you more armor than, for example, the leather armor. You need 15x Bronze and 6x Deer Hide for all parts.

Root Armor

The root armor in Valheim offers little movement restriction and quite good armor values. Best of all, when you wear the armor, you get a bonus that increases your bow skill by 15. Additionally, the mask gives you resistance to poison damage and the breastplate gives you resistance to pierce damage. To make the set you need 30x Root, 30x Ancient Bark, 4x Leather Scraps and 4x Deer Hide.

Iron Armor

The Iron Armor is one level above the Bronze Armor and does not offer much better stats except for a slightly higher armor value, however, the Iron Armor is also heavy and therefore drains 10% of your movement speed. You need the following resources for the complete set: 60x Iron and 6x Deer Hide.

Fenris Armor

Similar to the Wolf Armor, but slightly lighter in weight and lower in armor points, this Fenris Armor offers a unique buff that increases your movement speed instead of decreasing it. The complete set gives you an overall 9% faster movement speed, and the Fenris cloak also has a resistance to frost. To make the whole set you need 60x Fenris Hair, 20x Leather Scraps, 12x Wolf Pelt and 1x Cultist Trophy.
