Boiling hot water, dangerously bubbling lava, charred fortresses and huge rocks are an important part of the new Valheim Ashlands. Of course, new enemies are also part of the new biome and we'll tell you which ones you can encounter in the Ashlands in the GPORTAL blog.

Watch out for spiky bones and encounter charred skeletons

If you are strong and, above all, brave enough to make your way to the scorching hot Valheim Ashlands, you need to have the right watercraft and a few nerves of steel in your luggage. You will be greeted by unpleasant monsters in the boiling hot waters of the Ashlands. The new Drakkar ship is therefore essential not only because of the incredible heat, but also to fend off the attacks of the disgusting creatures. You can find out how to build the new Valheim Drakkar Ship for a largely safe journey to the Ashlands in our corresponding blog article.

As you sail through the water to the new biome, you're sure to encounter your first new enemies called Bonemaw Serpents. These are rather large and impressive snakes that, unlike the previous ones from the usual waters, look even nastier. Watch out for large bony spikes sticking out of the water, indicating that one or even several Bonemaw Serpents are about to attack you. At best, dodge the Bonemaw Serpents' attacks and defeat them, otherwise you'll be history faster than you can say Valhalla. Incidentally, they get their name from the fact that they have a huge mouth covered with numerous and damn sharp teeth that are just waiting for something chewy.

Once you have made it to the land of the Ashlands, you will probably be attacked by the next new creatures fairly quickly. Among them are the charred skeletons, which appear as four different types:

  • Charred Warrior: these charred skeletons carry around a rather large sword, which they can use to inflict a fair amount of damage when they hit you
  • Charred Marksman: here you can recognize them by the large bow, they are excellent at attacking, especially from a distance
  • Charred Twitcher: these skeletons have no weapon of their own, instead they simply strike or throw small stones fairly accurately. Otherwise, they are there as servants of the Charred Warlocks
  • Charred Warlock: you can recognize them by their eye-catching helmet and staff weapon. They hit you with fireballs so that the fire drains more and more of your health and, as described above, they summon several Charred Twitchers, which in turn are called Summoned Twitchers and can be a real nuisance

At the same time, the charred skeletons are probably the enemies you will encounter most often. They are not particularly difficult to defeat, the problem here lies more in the number in which they appear and then become difficult to defeat.

New mount, bubbling lava blobs and Volture

There are numerous new enemies to fight and defeat in the Ashlands. But there is also a new mount among the creatures: Asksvin. These sticky creatures somehow remind us of mutated frogs and are not only strong but also cause a lot of damage with their various attacks. You can also tame them and even use them as mounts with the right saddle. The practical thing is that Asksvins can run through lava, which is of course a great advantage in the Ashlands. You can make the Asksvin saddle from the following resources:

  • 20x Linen Thread
  • 6x Flametal
  • 4x Morgen Sinew (you get this from the new opponent called Morgen, follows below)

The lava blobs are also new and, as the name suggests, are made of liquefied lava. If you approach them, they explode and engulf everything in their vicinity in flames. You will also catch fire and the explosion of the lava blobs is really painful in itself. So keep your distance from them, as they can cover quite a distance with just one jump and get closer and closer to you.

Another new enemy of the Valheim Ashlands are the Voltures. They look very similar to a vulture and their behavior reflects this. As soon as they catch sight of you, they peck at you as if you were bird food and every now and then they let go of you briefly, only to fly down on you at full speed and inflict damage. Fortunately, they are not really strong and they don't like ice at all.

Morgen and the Fallen Valkyrie

To be honest, we don't know exactly how to describe the new Valheim Ashlands Morgen, but it reminds us of a kind of bony spider, albeit one with hands and feet. It also has a really big mouth with lots of long, pointed teeth that really want to bite you. Morgens are quite agile and fast and have three attacks that you should avoid or parry. Firstly, they flap their hands in front of them and then try to grab you with their mouth. They also roll quickly sideways and back and forth, bouncing on the ground immediately before or after. The final attack consists of a hard impact on the ground, which deals AoE damage. After successfully fighting Morgen, you will also receive the Morgen Sinew mentioned above.

The last new opponent in the Valheim Ashlands is the Fallen Valkyrie. And it's not just its appearance that is incredibly impressive. It is also reminiscent of a vulture, but much larger and adorned with deep black feathers. The Fallen Valkyrie can inflict considerable damage from both melee and ranged combat and should therefore be treated with caution. It has a whirl attack that consists of it contracting and whirling around with a lot of momentum, damaging anything that gets too close. It can then peck at you or shoot pink orbs at you, causing fire damage. Once you have defeated the Fallen Valkyrie, you will receive the following loot from her:

  • Celestial Feather: with this feather, you can create a new magical weapon called "Staff of the Wild". This new staff mainly deals poison damage, but can also summon thorny vines that attack anything around them that comes too close. You can craft the Staff of the Wild with these resources: 15x Ashwood, 10x Fiddlehead, 3x Celestial Feather and 1x Jade
  • Fallen Valkyries Trophy

In addition to the many new enemies in the Valheim Ashlands, there is of course also a new boss to defeat. His name is Fader and we already have a guide with lots of useful information on the GPORTAL blog. Take a look and find out all about the Valheim Ashlands Boss Fader.
