Icarus in 2025
A good 3 years have passed since the release. Of course, a lot has happened during this time. Not only have countless bug fixes and optimizations been made, but new content updates such as the “New Frontiers” and “Styx Expansion” DLC (and more) have also been added.
Icarus is also generally regarded as a fairly challenging survival game in which you have to fight your way to success, but are then very quickly sucked into an extremely rewarding gameplay spiral.
Less time pressure
When Icarus was released, a core gameplay feature was that players could only spend a certain amount of time on a planet in order to capture as many resources as possible and then quickly flee again. This also meant that, on the one hand, you didn't have forever to build up a base and, on the other, you had to rebuild it every time you entered a new planet.
Depending on the type of player, this was either a welcome challenge or an annoying game mechanic that caused unnecessary stress. However, player feedback has since defused this mechanic, so that today you can survive “normally” and don't have to constantly look at the virtual clock. There are still time-consuming missions that you can do on a planet, but you can still stay on that planet for as long as you like, perfect your base and simply enjoy the gameplay.
Weekly updates
The dev team “RocketWerkz” of Icarus is VERY diligent and constantly in contact with the community. Updates are released every week with customizations, new content and more, making the game feel fresh all the time, and the lively communication (see Steam news) always gives players the feeling that the developers are really listening and responding to feedback and making Icarus the survival insider tip that it is in 2025.
