That Was Minecraft Live 2024
A look back at Minecraft Live 2024 and what it means for 2025!
Minecraft Live 2024
On September 28th, the latest Minecraft Live event was streamed through YouTube and the official Minecraft website. Just in case you wondered ‘When was Minecraft Live 2024?’ But now, it’s all over and we should look into the future – the future of Minecraft that is. Did you miss the big event? Or do you just want to go over all the exciting Minecraft Live 2024 news once again? Whatever your reason, we got you covered. So, let’s not waste any time and go over the Minecraft Live event, in order.
Minecraft Live 2024
The Mojang Office
Throughout the live stream, we get some amazing insights into the Mojang office. As you can imagine, the office is full of little nudges to the game and it’s amazing to see how the developers truly live Minecraft. 2024 marks the first time the Minecraft Live event isn’t done annually anymore but occurs twice a year. Well, if we get more insights into the Mojang crew’s office in exchange, we won’t complain.
The New Update Schedule
After looking back at the ‘Tricky Trials’ and ‘Armored Paws’ updates we received this year, Chief Creative Officer at Mojang, Jens Bergenstein, announced the new update schedule for Minecraft going forward. As we explained previously, the yearly big summer update is a thing of the past now – but that doesn’t mean Minecraft’s out of updates! Instead of having one big update, we will now get smaller nuggets throughout the year, keeping things fresh and giving the developers more time to work on the updates. Since the crew didn't announce any fixed update schedule, we can surmise that we will get these updates every few months. So, keep your eyes on Minecraft because you can never know what new features are coming soon!
New Update ‘Bundles of Bravery’
Speaking of updates, here’s one for you: ‘Bundles of Bravery’ was announced in the Minecraft Live 2024 event, coming to your blocky world in the next few months. The Update focuses on 2 new features: hardcore mode in Bedrock Edition and bundles. With this update, console players can now join in on the thrill of playing Minecraft with only 1 life. Feel the adrenaline rush through you just like the first time you walked through the overworld. Are you prepared to take on the 100 days hardcore challenge in Minecraft?
Secondly: Bundles. What is a bundle? Well, judging from the footage, bundles are essentially chests within a chest. Taking only a single inventory slot, bundles allow you to store items and make your resource management easier than ever. Do you have a friend who just started Minecraft? Why not give them a starter pack with the most important items? The possibilities are (almost) endless!
Villagers in Trouble
After this segment, the show is briefly interrupted by a crew of villagers searching for a mysterious monster hiding in the woods. At first they make good progress but soon enough, the monster picks them off one by one. What could this enigmatic entity be? An enderman? A warden? A squid with landwalking capabilities? Or something else entirely? Perhaps we will learn of this menace later on…
Fun Fact
This is called ‘foreshadowing.’
Behind the Scenes of ‘A Minecraft Movie’
As if the Minecraft Live 2024 event wasn’t packed full of exciting news already, we got some looks at the upcoming Minecraft movie. The event even featured a scene directly lifted from the film, showing Steve (Jack Black) and Garrett (Jason Momoa) crafting items. While Steve crafts a sword with no issue, Garrett ‘only’ manages to create a bucket. But even an advanced player like Steve can’t deny that buckets are extremely valuable in the cubic dimensions of Minecraft.
Fun Fact
To accommodate real-life actors, the blocks in the movie are re-designed to make interacting with them easier. Apparently, the blocks’ scale is always a number that is a power of 2. Why? Because programmers like those. For some reason.
The Minecraft Experience
Among the many announcements we got during Minecraft Live 2024, this one might fly under some people’s radar, though it offers a form of Minecraft unseen before. The Minecraft Experience is described as an interactive, real-life engagement with the game we all love. By playing with your hands and feet in several rooms covered in images from the game, you can rescue a group of helpless villagers escaping the clutches of zombies. Immerse yourself within the world of Minecraft in a revolutionary new way. The Minecraft Experience will first come to Dallas, Texas and tour to a city near you afterwards.
The Pale Garden & The Creaking
After the successful setup with the villagers, it is time to get the payoff. The undeniable highlight of the Minecraft Live 2024 show was definitely the announcement of a new biome and a new mob. Let’s look at the details.
The Pale Garden
The new biome we will see soon couldn’t be more fitting for the Halloween season: the ‘pale garden’ is the forest of nightmares. During the day, a new plant (hanging moss) gives this place a serene vibe. The pale oaks stand peacefully and the various animals run around freely. And yet, something's… off about this place. There is very little music here, just the sounds of the trees and mobs you run into. And doesn’t it feel like there’s something moving right behind you? But when you turn around, there is nothing there. Was it just the wind or is something more sinister lurking in the umbral depths of this place…?
With the pale garden, Minecraft Live 2024 also announced 2 new plants: the pale oak and the hanging moss. Using the pale oak wood, you can craft items you already know such as fences, signs and slabs – but this time, they’re white in color! Sounds like a small thing to you? Perhaps, but the more options, the better. Speaking of more options, the hanging moss serves as both a scary element in the pale forest and as a new design element that you can use for your home. Want to create a witch’s hut in a swamp? Or a wild garden with an overgrown ruin in the middle? Is an abandoned shed with a moss carpet more to your liking? With the hanging moss, you can make all of these and more!
H3 The Creaking
Remember that ‘thing’ lurking in the pale garden’s shadows? Well, it turns out there really is something there and it’s excited about your arrival. This lovely creature, which certainly only has your best interest in mind, is called the ‘creaking’. Of course, this tree fellow only wants to hug you, though that unfortunately lowers your health bar. We understand if you get angry at the creaking but luckily, its health can not decrease, apparently. So you can use these creatures to train in combat if you want to, they can certainly take it.
But what if you really want to get rid of the creaking? In moments like that, we should all take a minute and look up to the sky. To collect ourselves, of course, but mostly because the actual enemy you have to face is the creaking heart, which hides in the canopy. But here’s the thing… getting rid of it is a good first step. But why not do something more… elaborate? Why not put the ‘silk touch’ enchantment on a pickaxe and take the heart for yourself? You know, these hearts make for great presents for your friends on holidays.
The Minecraft Live 2024 event then concludes with the announcement that these new features will come in the form of snapshots soon. And with that, the event comes to a close. Now, what have we learned? Aside from all the things we just listed. Well, we learned that even after 15 years, Minecraft will probably be supported for a long time to come. And when these exciting new updates finally roll out, you can be sure to experience them on a Minecraft server from G-Portal. So now, all we can do is wait – for the updates and the next Minecraft Live, whenever that will be.
