Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Minecraft Snow!
In Minecraft, snowfall is not just a weather condition but an experience. When the clouds roll in and the white flakes start drifting down, the world becomes serene and peaceful. But where does it snow in Minecraft?
The answer to this question is actually quite obvious. Snowy biomes, that’s the answer. In such biomes like snowy plains, the snowy taiga and snowy slopes, snow replaces rain. Even in warmer biomes, snowy peaks above certain heights get a wintery touch. If you’re climbing high enough, you might find yourself surrounded by frost-covered terrain and drifting flurries. You see, there are a lot of snowy places in the games which means there is a lot of Minecraft snow.
The Science behind It: How Minecraft Snow Works
When the weather changes to precipitation in a snowy biome, it doesn’t rain – it snows. Here’s what happens during a snowstorm:
- snow layers form on solid blocks like grass, dirt and stone
- snow doesn’t settle on glass, leaves or slabs
- blocks with high light levels, such as those near torches or glowstone, remain snow-free
Easy, right? It snows and snow layers cover the world. Sounds truly magical and…quite realistic? Hey! What about the blocks and dangers in Minecraft?
Minecraft Snow: From Snowfall to Layers to Blocks
Don’t worry, there are Minecraft snow blocks! Of course there are since you can easily find them in the world. It works like this: Up to 8x Minecraft snow layers can lay on top of each other. Once there are 8 it becomes a solid block. Before that the layers aren’t.
Fun Fact:
Since Minecraft snow layers aren’t solid blocks, mobs can’t spawn on them. You should keep that in mind to make your base mob proof. However, these layers can melt. We would recommend powder snow.
The Power of Minecraft Snowballs
Snowballs aren’t just for fun. They’re surprisingly useful in battle! While they don’t damage most mobs, they’re effective against blazes and make for an amusing way to harass the ender dragon. Plus, 4x snowballs can be crafted into one snow block, which saves inventory space and is perfect for building – an igloo for example?
Surviving & Thriving in Minecraft Snow Biomes
We covered the blocks, now to the dangers. Living in a Minecraft snowy biome has its challenges. Here’s how to make the most of it:
- Avoid powder snow traps: Powder snow may look harmless, but step into it and you’ll start sinking and taking freezing damage! Leather boots let you walk across it safely. However, do set up some traps yourself!
- Snow golems as defenders: Build a snow golem with two snow blocks and a carved pumpkin to create a frosty companion that pelts hostile mobs with snowballs.
- Keep water unfrozen: Water exposed to snowfall freezes into ice. To keep your water sources liquid, place a light source nearby.
Especially the first one is a tricky issue. You know, powder snow looks like regular Minecraft snow. That’s why you have to use it instead of falling for it.
Attention!
Not all light sources melt water! Soul torches, soul campfires and soul lanterns give off a light level of 10 but do not melt snow. The same way, end rods won’t secure your water source. So, they truly look cool – pun intended – because they are.
Weather Control: Minecraft Snowfall Anytime You Want It
If you love the snowy biomes’ aesthetic, you can make it snow whenever you want by using the Minecraft rain command in those snowy biomes to make it snow:
/weather rain
And when you’re ready to clear the skies:
/weather clear
It’s a dream come true, isn’t it? No difficult details, no but and no need for complicated redstone usages.
