What to Expect from New Minecraft Updates
It’s fall and we all know what that means ...
New Minecraft Updates
Time to start speculating about the next major Minecraft update. Well, the thing is, there have been some changes. Of course, Mojang is still going to update the game and create new content! What is going to change is how often and to what extent Minecraft updates will be released in the future. You have questions? Don’t worry, we got you!
What Will A New Minecraft Update Schedule Be Like?
Because no one knows more about future Minecraft updates than Mojang, we’ll give them a chance to explain the coming changes. This is what can be found on the official Minecraft website:
“We know that you want new Minecraft content more often, which is why we’re changing our feature development rhythm. Instead of providing one free update during the summer, as we’ve done in the past, we’ll now be releasing a number of free game drops throughout the year. These game drops will vary in size and will bring you features to explore more frequently.”
So, essentially we can assume that it is a good change, right? It means we do not have to wait a whole year for new items or biomes. At the same time, smaller features can be implemented more easily and you have more time to test them, so that smaller mechanics aren’t overshadowed by the bigger changes anymore. But what else does that mean?
Bye Bye, Next Minecraft Mob (Well, Mob Vote)
You did read that correctly. We have to say goodbye to the mob vote. A controversial topic amongst players in which you had the chance to vote for one out of three mobs. The winner was featured in the next major Minecraft update. But don’t worry! Just because there won’t be ‘one big new update’, it does not mean there won’t be a new Minecraft mob. Hopefully, at least. Who knows, maybe we will even get new mobs more frequently now. A lizard would be cool, wouldn’t it? But let’s face it: even if we liked playing a part in designing the game’s future, it was a bit upsetting to wave goodbye to the losers of each mob vote, right? Because we knew we’d never see them again. And with the new schedule, that feeling of loss is finally a thing of the past.
Some Speculations about the Minecraft Update Plans
What do we have to be prepared for? Basically, we know what won’t be coming anymore. And we have a broad idea of what is going to come. But when? How? These are the questions we have:
Will these smaller new Minecraft updates be released regularly?
Will Minecraft announce them before or after they are released?
How often will they be released?
Basically, two updates a year are also more than one. We do think there will be more than two, but the details are yet to be uncovered and we are here for it! We’re anticipating what’s to come. Still, one last thing, dear players.
Modders, Get Ready for New Minecraft Updates!
Why modders in particular? Easy: most modders update their mods regularly to accommodate them to updates. This can be quite some work depending on the mod. That is where it gets complicated. Now, we may not know when and how often new Minecraft updates will be released and therefore it could potentially become more stressful for modders to keep up the pace or stay motivated to keep updating their mods.
Of course, we still want you to stay excited and optimistic for the new Minecraft update schedule! After all, we will get updates. We will be able to get creative with new input. Maybe all we have to do is keep our fingers crossed and anticipate what’s to come, however and whenever it will come. And until then, you can still enjoy the game on a Minecraft server from G-Portal and mentally prepare for the first new Minecraft update surprise. Anyways, have fun!
