The world in Navezgane is harsh and merciless - not only do any zombie hordes want to pounce on you and eat your fresh flesh, but the resulting infections, which you can contract in various ways, are also a great danger. You can find out all about the 7 Days to Die infections in the blog article.

How infections affect and are transmitted

As soon as you are infected, you will see an overview on the left-hand side of your screen with information on how bad it currently is - indicated by the percentage. In 7 Days to Die, there are different infection stages that tell you how badly you are doing and what restrictions you can expect. We will explain the stages to you below. The undead and wild animals in 7 Days to Die are naturally teeming with filth and therefore also bacteria, which will quickly spread to you if you are attacked. If you are already weakened or even have a slight infection in your body, another zombie attack is rather bad and will cause you to develop an infection very quickly or make the existing one even worse. But don't worry, an infection does not directly mean your death.

Curing and preventing infections

The good news is that you won't die directly from an infection and, more importantly, almost every player will suffer one or more infections at some point. There are various procedures that at least make it possible to suffer an infection less frequently or possibly almost never. The most important point here is definitely the way in which you fight zombies and keep a watchful eye on your surroundings to avoid being hit by spontaneous surprise attacks. Always make sure that the zombies don't hit you, stay agile and lure several zombies into a tight spot so that you can take them out one by one and avoid being overrun. It is just as important that you always keep an eye on your hunger and thirst and, if in doubt, have enough supplies to get you back on track quickly so that you have your maximum health.

Otherwise, you also have the option of taking vitamins. These are small green pills that you can find in backpacks, medicine cabinets and, of course, primarily in hospitals during a tour through Navezgane. Important: The vitamins do not cure an infection, but they definitely help to prevent one, so always take them with you!

Tip: Use one point and invest it in the perk called “The Brawler”. This ensures that any opponents you hit receive a debuff that prevents them from transmitting the infection.

Overview of the infection stages

If you are plagued by an infection, you should always pay attention to what stage it is currently in. Depending on which stage your infection has already reached, it is important to seek a cure as quickly as possible, because once you have reached stage 4, there is nothing more you can do and you will inevitably die.

  • Stage 1: The first stage ranges from 0.1% to 14% and is almost unnoticeable. However, this is also the point at which you can most easily and quickly prevent an exacerbation or even cure the infection completely
  • Stage 2: Here the range is from 14.1% to 57% and you will already notice a significant increase in discomfort, because from stage 2 your stamina regenerates 25% less. This is a very significant drop and is particularly noticeable in combat and when gathering materials or resources
  • Stage 3: From 57.1% to 99%, your stamina regenerates up to 35% less and you even get -1 on all your attributes, which affects you in all areas
  • Stage 4: You reach this stage at 100% infection rate and means nothing other than your immediate death

What treatment options you have

We have already mentioned that you can treat and even cure mild infections quite well. There are three different options available to you, which we will explain in more detail below:

  • Honey: You can cure 5% of an infection with a portion of honey, which means that honey is the best choice for stage 1 in particular - but only if you can find it. Honey is rather difficult or rare to find, but is mainly dropped by mining tree stumps. Other places to find it include ambulances, medicine cabinets and crates. So collect honey right from the start so that you are prepared for emergencies and read the “Wasteland Treasures: Honey” book, which you can find as loot or on bookshelves, for example
  • Herbal antibiotics: A better variant and even to make yourself after you have unlocked the recipe by reading 30 medical magazines. The recipe then consists of these ingredients: Blueberries, mushrooms, chrysanthemums, nitrate powder and water. You can cure 10% of your infection with herbal antibiotics. Note that you will need more resources to make it if you make it over a campfire instead of at a chemistry station
  • Antibiotics: The final treatment option is antibiotics, which cure 25% of the infection. You can also find this item in chests, medicine cabinets and pillboxes, but there is also the option of crafting it, even if it is a little more challenging. To make it, you either need a beaker that you can place on a campfire or you can use the chemistry station, which we would definitely recommend. In addition to fewer resources, it also takes less time to produce the antibiotic at the chemistry station
