Survive the 7 Days to Die blood moon
In the post-apocalyptic world of 7 Days to Die, you have to fight primarily for your survival and that also means facing off against the undead who only want one thing: your flesh and blood. Another event called the Blood Moon makes it even more difficult and we'll explain how to survive it and how best to prepare for it in the blog.
How the blood moon works in 7 Days to Die
The nights in 7 Days to Die are already exhausting for you anyway, because in addition to poor visibility, almost all zombies have the ability to run, which makes it difficult for you to escape or move outside in general. Every 7th night offers an additional danger, as this is when the blood moon appears, which means certain death if you are ill-prepared and not vigilant enough.
As soon as the night of the blood moon begins, you will inevitably recognize what is about to happen by the red color of the moon. With the default settings, the special event lasts from 22:00 to 04:00, but you can adjust this as you wish with your own server. The biggest problem with the Blood Moon event is that all zombies know your whereabouts at all times - and you may have thought that normal nights are dangerous and stressful.
During the blood moon, the zombies are stronger, faster and even more bloodthirsty than they already are. In addition, there are of course even more special zombies, which otherwise tend to appear less frequently or in dangerous areas or POIs. As the zombies appear continuously and sometimes in large hordes during the Blood Moon Night, the most important goal apart from your survival is preparation - the zombies will only give up once they have killed you or the event is over.
Prepare for the blood moon
Due to the incredibly large and, above all, continuous zombie storm, you have to be damn well prepared for every blood moon night. Use it to your advantage to know when the next blood moon is coming. Your base is of course the most important place here, which you should not only expand well, but above all secure, because the zombies in 7 Days to Die are (unfortunately) pretty smart. If you have not yet set up your own base, or you are in an unfamiliar area, the easiest thing to do is to choose a location that is reasonably easy to defend - for example, a multi-storey building.
To keep the zombie hordes at least somewhat at a distance, any barriers are a good choice, as they slow down the zombies and give you more time. In addition to barriers, traps are also a good choice to distract zombies or, with a bit of luck, even kill them before they can reach you. If you have already built your own base, it is always worth looking out for weak points and expanding them or simply reinforcing your walls, doors and windows. Use stronger materials than wood and gradually upgrade your base into a real fortress that makes it difficult for the zombies to catch you.
As well as reinforcing and expanding your base, you can also use the zombies' AI and lure them into traps by taking them down certain paths as the game progresses and you collect more resources. Set up barriers and traps at such dead ends so that you can take out the hordes of zombies more comfortably. If you absolutely want to prevent the bloodthirsty monsters from attacking and possibly even destroying your base, you can also set up your own camp for the blood moon nights. This will keep your actual base as safe as possible and you can let off steam with traps, dead ends and barriers in the camp. Last but not least, you should of course stock up on supplies and upgrade your weapons. Supplies include water, food, ammunition for your weapons and, of course, medical supplies. Strong weapons are an important point, but you can also use fire in the form of molotovs to kill several zombies at once.
Note: Sometimes the best preparation is simply not enough - in this case you should have an escape plan up your sleeve. Choose a car nearby or a tall building where you can quickly reach the roof using ladders.
Tips for surviving the blood moon
- Resource management: In addition to all your preparations, which sometimes also include the production of ammunition, you must of course make sure that you don't waste it. In other words, concentrate on zombies that are close to you and don't come running at a great distance - hopefully your traps will sort them out
- Priorities: A blood moon night can be overwhelming, because there are an incredible number of zombies coming at you, and they're pretty strong. It's easy to lose track, but you shouldn't panic. Concentrate above all on the special zombies, such as the Demolisher, because it is the zombies that will destroy your base and in the end you too
- Keep moving: As is almost always the case in battles in any game, you should keep moving. If you get stuck, you'll quickly be trapped and probably won't be able to get out. For a better overview and more protection, you can place yourself on higher levels, where zombies either can't get there at all or at least not as quickly
- Traps: Traps and barriers play a very important role. They are mainly there to stop the permanent zombie hordes and, above all, to significantly reduce their size before they finally meet you - the rest is up to you
- Teamwork makes the dream work: Of course, you can also play 7 Days to Die in single player, but the more helping hands you have, the better. If you play together with your friends, you can divide up the roles and use the right strategy to take on the hordes
The blood moon is over - now what?
If you survived the blood moon without any major damage, congratulations! But you shouldn't rest too long, because the next blood moon is already waiting for you. While the zombie hordes have been battering your base, you may have noticed a few spots that you urgently need to repair and, above all, reinforce. At best, erase every possible weak point to become stronger and stronger and to be able to withstand the zombies. Of course, you also need to keep building up your defenses, or you can take a completely new approach and rebuild your base if you weren't satisfied with your previous one or if you've come up with better ideas.
Once the sun has risen again, you are largely safe for the time being - at least from the huge hordes. So you can venture out again, and you should, because with a bit of luck all the zombies you've killed will have dropped loot that will be of interest to you. As the game progresses, the zombie hordes get stronger and stronger for each blood moon, so logically you have to get stronger and stronger. To do this, use the perks, which allow you to unlock heavier weapons and tools, for example, as well as increased defense options. Once you have electric traps and turrets at your disposal, you definitely won't want to be without them anymore.
