What exactly is the Aloft Sketchbook?

The Sketchbook in Aloft is a unique tool that allows you as a player to customize your environment. As a kind of creative construction kit, you can use the Sketchbook to create new furniture, decorations and even entire structures. This gives you the opportunity to customize the game according to your wishes and design your island as you see best.

Where to get the Sketchbook

However, before you can unleash your creativity in Aloft and use the sketchbook, you first have to find it. With a little exploration and luck, you will probably discover it at the very beginning of Aloft - otherwise, just keep an eye out for abandoned ruins and the crates inside. As soon as you have found the sketchbook, you can get started and the world of design is open to you.

If you haven't been lucky enough to find the sketchbook yet, you can also make it yourself by assembling 2x Wood, 1x Paper and 1x Charcoal on a workbench. Don't worry, you'll get the workbench right at the beginning of Aloft.

Using the Sketchbook correctly

Once you've got your finger on the pulse of the sketchbook, it's actually quite simple: open it and look at the various structures and objects that fall at your feet in Aloft. If you discover something you like and would also like to have for your floating island, you can activate Sketchbook mode and hover over any shapes. If something is displayed in orange, you can draw it in your sketchbook and you will immediately have the construction plan for it. If you already know how to build something, this will also be displayed so that you don't waste any paper.

When trying out your sketchbook, don't just pay attention to decorative objects and obvious structures - otherwise you may lose sight of more inconspicuous things or shapes that you can also use for yourself. You can discover something new in virtually every ruin and shipwreck and use it to design your home the way you want it. However, you don't just need the sketchbook for sketching, paper is also essential, as is a piece of charcoal for drawing. You can also find paper in boxes, collect it from old books or make it yourself:

• 3x Small Plant
• 1x Clean Water
• 1x Glaswort (a plant that you find in the course of the game)

This will give you paper pulp. You will need another 5 of these to make paper. You should also know that in Aloft you can not only build wooden structures, but also stone ones. With ruins in particular, it's important to look out for different stone shapes, which you may need at some point for a unique base to make your island stand out from the others!
