Call Forth the Mob: Minecraft Spawn Eggs
Hey. Hey, you! Yes, you. Did you ever meet a scientist that gave you small capsules filled with animal-looking creatures and asked you to let them battle to fill out an encyclopedia? If so, you might enjoy the obscure little item we would like to talk about today: the Minecraft spawn egg.
Unleash Your Mobs with Minecraft Spawn Eggs
If you're a fan of the Pixelmon mod, you're probably familiar with the thrill of releasing your own creatures into the world. But what if we told you that Minecraft has its own version of this mechanic already? Enter the spawn eggs (sometimes also called Minecraft mob eggs), which are basically like your Minecraft pokéballs. While these little eggs might not contain the same monsters as the ones on the mod, they can unleash anything from cute chickens to dangerous creepers. So, let's dive into the wonderful world of spawn eggs and learn how to use them to make your Minecraft world come alive.
What Are Minecraft Spawn Eggs?
In Minecraft, spawn eggs are special items that allow you to generate mobs instantly – just like how you’d release a pokémon. Each spawn egg corresponds to a different mob, and these mobs can range from peaceful animals like cows and sheep to menacing monsters like spiders and zombies.
Spawn eggs can only be used in creative mode or by using commands, but don't let that limit your creativity! Whether you're building an immersive adventure map or simply want to spice up your world with a few mobs, these eggs are the key to spawning exactly what you need, whenever you want.
How to Get Minecraft Spawn Eggs
As we mentioned earlier, Minecraft spawn eggs cannot be used in your standard game mode. Instead, you need to either play in creative mode or use the following command:
- /give
Followed by the name of the spawn egg you want. These are typically the name of the mob, followed by _spawn_egg. For example, if you want to get an egg for a skeleton, you have to type the following command:
- /give @s skeleton_spawn_egg
Sounds simple enough, right? Well, that’s because it is. But how do you get Minecraft spawn eggs in creative mode? To do that, just go right to a mob you want to turn into a spawn egg and pick up the mob as a spawn egg by clicking the pick block option (clicking the mouse wheel while playing on PC.) This will place a copy of the mob’s spawn egg in your inventory. Or just use your creative inventory, where all spawn eggs can be found. And that’s all folks! If you ever asked yourself ‘can you craft spawn eggs’, the answer is clearly ‘no’.
How to Use Spawn Eggs
Now, you have all the Minecraft spawn eggs you could ever want. Great! So, what can you do with them? Look at them, for one. Just marvel at their design and coloring. All Minecraft spawn eggs are unique and have a color and pattern that corresponds to the mob they spawn. But we know what you want, you want to use these Minecraft spawn eggs to call upon a veritable army of mobs, ranging from an endermite spawn egg to an enderman egg. Minecraft boasts a high variety of mobs to pick from, after all. So, how do you make these little mobs crack their shells and reveal themselves in all their glory?
Luckily for you, using a spawn egg is simple and super fun! To use one, all you need to do is equip a Minecraft spawn egg, right-click on a block, and voilà! The mob associated with that egg will instantly appear in the world. Just imagine setting up an entire farm with a few clicks, or, if you're feeling particularly mischievous, unleashing a horde of snow golems!
Some of the more advanced players might now think that you can combine these Minecraft spawn eggs with a dispenser in order to launch it in the face of your enemies. And of course, we appreciate your creativity and your enthusiasm, but the fact of the matter is that spawn eggs launched from a dispenser immediately spawn their respective mob in front of the dispenser, not where the egg is supposed to land. Sadly, not everything can be as fun to throw as a fire charge.
What You can and can’t Spawn Using a Minecraft Mob Egg?
Spawn eggs cover an incredible variety of mobs in Minecraft. Want to set up a peaceful animal farm? Use the horse, goat or bee spawn eggs. Looking to challenge yourself with an intense battle? Bring in some witches, guardians or even a Wither boss (with the right commands, of course)!
In fact, the list of mobs you can spawn is so extensive that we won’t even bother laying it out to you. Instead, we’re going to talk about mobs you can’t spawn easily, since that list is far shorter:
- brown mooshroom: cannot be spawned since the egg has the same ID as one for the red mooshroom
- the killer bunny: Similar to the brown mooshroom, the killer bunny has the same ID as the regular rabbit. If you want to face this most fearsome rodent, you have to use the command /summon rabbit ~ ~ ~ {RabbitType:99}
- mobs that were planned but were never used do not have spawn eggs
- mobs that are exclusive to April Fools events don’t have a spawn egg either
Aside from that, there are some specific mechanics that occur if a mob is given a certain name. You can use an anvil to change a Minecraft spawn egg’s name, which also changes the name of the mob that spawns from it.
- ’Grumm’ causes a mob to be shown upside-down. Use this option if you want your mobs to experience a whole new perspective.
- ‘Johnny’ on a vindicator makes it extremely aggressive against anything that is not an illager. While that isn’t really useful during a raid, you can use this interaction to defend yourself against hordes of other mobs. Help really does come from unexpected places sometimes.
- ‘jeb_’ on a sheep causes the fur to change colors. Why have several sheep with colors when you can have all colors on one?
As you can see, there is basically no limit when it comes to the fun you can have with the Minecraft mob eggs. And in case you ever heard something about a ‘secret spawn egg’ somewhere, then don’t be fooled. They were probably talking about some eggs people have found in the game’s files that don’t connect to any mob in the game at present.
Some Ideas for Minecraft Spawn Eggs
If you're into creating custom maps, adventure scenarios or epic battle arenas, spawn eggs are your secret weapon. You can use commands and redstone contraptions to trigger waves of enemies or spawn friendly NPCs for a more immersive experience. Imagine an adventure where your player must survive waves of zombies, followed by a surprise ender dragon finale. With spawn eggs and a little imagination, the possibilities are endless!
Whether you're looking to create a peaceful animal paradise or summon an army of hostile mobs, Minecraft spawn eggs are your best friends. Much like trainers in Pixelmon, you have the power to control your environment by choosing which creatures to release into the wild.
So go ahead, grab some spawn eggs, and start experimenting. Summon creatures in creative mode, use commands to create epic battles, or just enjoy the chaos of setting a dozen creepers loose. And for the best possible experience when playing online, use a Minecraft server from G-Portal to ensure the best connection and safety. The Minecraft world is your playground, and with spawn eggs in hand, you can shape it however you like!
Happy spawning, fellow Minecrafters!
